Dear Kindred Spirit,

Welcome to the very first Hearth Letter.

Truthfully, it feels a little surreal to be writing those words.

For a long time, Hearth & Hollow existed as a collection of ideas. A dream. A notebook filled with plans. A growing folder of recipes, photographs, workshops, and "someday soon" conversations.

While many spend months preparing behind closed doors before a grand opening, Hearth & Hollow will be built in plain sight; every recipe tested and every project created towards laying the foundation for what is to come.

And while there may not yet be a brick-and-mortar hearth to gather around, there is something just as meaningful beginning to take shape: community.

The past month has been a whirlwind of creation. The website doors officially opened, and we've spent much of June filling the shelves and setting the tables. Recipes have found their home in the Test Kitchen. Stories have begun appearing in the Workshop. New pages have been built, revised, and rebuilt again. It's been equal parts exciting and exhausting in the best possible way.

Outside, nature has been busy as well.

Here in Texas, late spring has been unusually generous with rain. The Summer Solstice arrived this weekend, yet the mornings continue to greet us with rounds of thunderstorms rolling across the sky. Normally, we'd already be counting triple-digit temperatures by now, but this year has been surprisingly gentle.

Needless to say, the garden certainly isn't complaining so thank you, Mother Nature. Between the morning rain and afternoon sunshine, everything seems to be growing a little faster, a little greener and a little happier than usual. Now we're simply crossing our fingers that the weather behaves itself long enough for Fourth of July celebrations.

One recipe we're especially excited about for the holiday is our Red, White & Bleu Sliders.

They're everything a summer gathering should be: juicy burgers, tang bleu cheese, peppery arugula, and enough flavor to keep people hovering around the serving tray for seconds and thirds.

This year, we've already learned an important lesson for our holiday cookout: extra caramelized onions.

What starts as a generous batch somehow disappears twice as fast as expected every single time. Trust me.

One of the dreams for Hearth & Hollow has always been sharing creativity in all its forms. In the months and years ahead, you'll see more workshop projects, creative tutorials, handmade goods, and eventually even DIY kits designed to help bring a little creativity into your own home.

Because creating things matters.

Whether it's woodworking, painting, knitting, candle making, gardening, writing, journaling, jewelry making, sewing, or something entirely different, the act of making something with your own hands is good for the soul.

And if you have a skill, craft, hobby, or passion you'd love to share with others, I'd love to hear from you.

Hearth & Hollow isn't here to compete with creators.

It's here to celebrate them.

My hope is that Hearth & Hollow becomes a cozy corner of the internet where kindred spirits can find one another. A place for people who love seasonal living, handmade things, home-cooked meals, creativity, storytelling, and the simple magic of making something with their own hands.

Most of all, I hope it becomes a place where people feel they belong.

Because the dream has never been about building a brand.

It's about building a table large enough for everyone who wants a seat.

And the beautiful thing is that we're only just getting started.

The first day a seed breaks through the soil doesn't look particularly impressive.

It's small.

Fragile.

Easy to overlook.

But hidden beneath that tiny sprout are months of preparation, unseen growth, and the promise of something much larger still to come.

In many ways, Hearth & Hollow is that seedling.

Small.

Hopeful.

Growing.

And deeply grateful that you're here to watch it unfold.

Until next month, leave room for wonder.

Warmly,

Keeper of the Hearth
